Splash Networks has partnered with Shore WiFi to support guest Wi-Fi at two waterfront campgrounds on Maryland's Eastern Shore: Duckneck Campground on the Chester River and Bay Shore Campground in Rock Hall, on the Chesapeake Bay. At both sites, campers buy Wi-Fi packages directly through our captive portal and get online in minutes. Hundreds of customers use the service, and it has supported more than 12 thousand visits to date.

Overview

Campgrounds have a different connectivity challenge from a mall or a stadium. Guests stay for a night, a week or a whole season, often with several devices each, and the venue needs a fair, simple way to offer and charge for internet access. Shore WiFi runs the on-site network at both campgrounds, and it needed a captive portal that could sell Wi-Fi as easily as the camp store sells firewood.

Splash Networks provided that portal. Campers connect to the network, choose a package (daily, weekly, monthly, or a custom plan the campground defines) and pay by credit card, Google Pay or Apple Pay. Payments are processed securely through Stripe. The admin controls every package: price, duration, number of devices allowed, bandwidth, and time-based or data quotas. That keeps the network fair for everyone and lets each campground set pricing to suit its guests.

Results & Benefits

The paid Wi-Fi service has been adopted widely at both campgrounds. Hundreds of customers have purchased packages, and the network has supported more than 12 thousand visits to date. Guests get dependable internet for staying in touch, streaming or working remotely. The campgrounds get a new revenue stream from infrastructure they already operate.

Because packages, limits and quotas can all be set by the admin, each campground can shape its offer around how its guests actually stay. Short-stay campers can buy a day pass and seasonal residents a monthly plan, and no guest can use up the shared bandwidth.
